Untold Truth about Motivation and How You Can Use It as a Skill to Succeed

Do you often struggle with motivation when pursuing specific tasks? 

Many of us do, often without fully understanding the science behind it. In this post, we will explore how motivation works in the brain and how you can leverage this knowledge to develop it as a skill, giving you more control over when and how often you feel motivated.

First, Understand Motivation as a Skill To Be Learned…

Motivation is not just a feeling; it is a real physical and psychological process that can be learned and developed through hard work and practice. 

Similar to learning how to read and write when you were 4 years old, motivation is a skill that can be cultivated. If you think and understand this, you can so much more control over you behaviors, and actions. 

And can accomplish a lot more, especially on the days you “don’t feel like doing it”. 

Career Impact on Motivation

Dedicating your life to acquiring knowledge and skills in a career that aligns with your natural strengths and interests is crucial for inspiring consistent motivation. Read that once more…

Side-tangent, however, if you find yourself procrastinating and being lazy when it comes to learning a skill, or job, then it’s an indicator that you’re simply not interested in that specific skill or field. And that’s okay. 

Procrastination in this case is helping you realise what you do and don’t like doing…

So, understanding your why, knowing your direction, and allowing small victories will help you stay motivated and focused on your long-term aims.

3 Factors Influencing Your Motivation

Finally, 

Three main factors influence our motivation:

  1. Physiological state
  2. Environment
  3. Past experiences...

These factors influence the parts of the brain that control motivation, such as the amygdala. By being mindful of these factors, you can make a more informed choice to accept, change, or leave situations that you recognizeThree main factors influence are impacting your motivation.

For example,  and think about these 3 q’s…

  • How do you feel? What is your current psychological state? (happy/sad/stressed/upbeat?) 
  • What is your current environment like? (busy/ noisy/productive/quiet/peaceful, chaotic?)
  • What has happened in the past that could be causing you to be/ or not to be as motivated? I.e. is it a negative feeling after a particular ‘failure’ you experienced / or a moment of victory where you overcame your self-doubt and succeedon at something etc…
